• Elena Gilbert

Nina Constantinova Dobreva, aka Nina Dobrev, born January 9^th 1989, is a Canadian actress who plays Elena Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries television series.

Nina was born in Sofia, Bulgaria to her Bulgarian parents and moved to Toronto, Ontario, when she was turn.  She is fluent in Bulgarian, French and English.  Her mum is an artist and her father is a computer scientist.

Nina attended the Dean Armstrong Acting School where she was discovered by several talent agencies.

Although she began work as a model, her modelling quickly led to ad work and eventually she began working as a professional actor.  Aside from The Vampire Diaries she starred in Degrassi: The Next Generation and in 2010 she had a small role in the erotic thriller Chloe.

Although Nina started studying Sociology at Ryerstown University in Toronto she dropped out in 2008 to pursue her acting career.

• Stefan Salvatore

Paul Wasilewski, aka Paul Wesley, is an American actor, born July 23^rd 1982, who is best known for his role as Stefan Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries.

Paul was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Polish immigrants, Agnieszka and Thomas.  He has three sisters, Monkia, Julia and Leah.  Paul is fluent in both Polish and English, and until the age of 16 he spent 4 months every year in Poland.

Most of Paul’s work has been in television, where he had small roles in television shows including 8 Simple Rules, The O.C. and Smallville.  He also starred in the Fallen miniseries before he took the role as Stefan in The Vampire Diaries.

• Damon Salvatore

Ian Somerhalder is an American actor, born December 8^th 1978, plays anti-hero Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries.

Ian was born in Covington, Louisiana and is the middle child of siblings Bob and Robin.  When he was ten he started a modelling career until he was 17, when he decided to act professionally.

Aside from The Vampire Diaries, Ian is best known for his role as Boone in the television show Lost.  Although he was the first actor to be picked for the show he was the first to be killed off; however, although he died in episode 20 he returned for 7 episodes throughout the season.

Ian is also well known for his philanthropic work concerning animals and the environment.  He was the first celebrity to become actively involved after the oil spill in 2010.  He also supports St. Tammany Humane society, which is an organisation for animal welfare, and a supporter for the It Gets Better Project; an organisation that helps prevent suicides among LGBT teenagers.

• Caroline Forbes

Candice Accola is an American actress, born May 13^th 1987, who plays Caroline Forbes in The Vampire Diaries.

Candice grew up in Edgewood, Florida; her father is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon and her mother was previously an environmental engineer.

Aside from The Vampire Diaries Candice has appeared in television shows How I Met Your Mother and Smallville as well as the film Juno.

Candice is also a professional singer; she had a deal for the CD It’s Always The Innocent Ones and appeared as a background singer in the Hannah Montana movies.

• Bonnie Bennett

Katerina Graham is an American actress, born September 5^th 1989, who plays Bonnie Bennett in The Vampire Diaries.

Katerina was born in Geneva, Switzerland to her Liberian father and half Russian, half Polish mother.  She attended Hebrew school and speaks Spanish, French, English as well as small amount of Portuguese and Hebrew.

Aside from acting Katerina is a spokesmodel, singer and model.

She sings in the will.i.am song I got it from my mama and has released her own music; she is a spokesmodel for Fanta.  As well as The Vampire Diaries she has appeared in Lizzie McGuire, 17 Again and The Parent Trap.

• Jeremy Gilbert

Steven R. McQueen is an American actor, born July 13^th 1988, who plays Elena’s brother Jeremy in The Vampire Diaries.

Steven was born in Los Angeles, California to parents Stacey Toten and actor/producer Chad McQueen.  He comes from an acting family, as his grandparents are actors Steve McQueen and Neile Adams.

Aside from The Vampire Diaries he is known for his recurring role as Kyle Hunter in Everwood.

• Tyler Lockwood

Michael Trevino is an American actor, born January 25^th 1985, who is most known for his role as Tyler Lockwood in The Vampire Diaries.

Michael was born and raised in Montebello, California and later Valencia, California to his Mexican mother, and American father.

Aside from The Vampire Diaries, Michael has appeared in films Cow Belles and The Factory, as well as television shows Charmed, 90210 and Bones.

• Matt Donovan

Zachery Roerig, aka Zach Roerig, is an American actor, born February 22^nd 1985 who plays Matt Donovan.

Zach was born in Montpelier, Ohio and has a younger sister, Emily. At high school he was both a footballer and a wrestler.  As he was growing up he had a part-time job working with his father and grandfather making gravestones.

As well as appearing in The Vampire Diaries Zach played the main role of Casey Hughes in As the Word Turns and appeared in episodes of Friday Night Lights.
