What’s happening March 23rd, you ask?  Why the film release of The Hunger Games.  As in the previous post, I may have mentioned (just once or twice…) how excited I am for the movie adaptation of the novel by Suzanne Collins, partially because the book was really awesome, partially because Liam Hemsworth is a super attractive actor, and as an Australian I have to support in every way possible (right?).

For those who didn’t read my last blog (tsk tsk)  The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen as she competed in the annual Games run by the ruling Capitol; where 12 boys and 12 girls, one from each district, play against each other…to the death.  If things aren’t bad enough for Katniss, she soon learns that the other tribute from District Twelve, Peeta Mellark, has romantic feelings for her.

The film comes out in little over a month (get excited people) and has managed to pull in some pretty well-known actors.  Katniss is played by Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class), Peeta by Josh Hutcherson (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, and my favourite, Woody Harrelson, who has excellently been chosen for the role of drunk Haymitch Abernathy.

On a somewhat different, but still interesting, note, The Hunger Games is being distributed by Lionsgate, the same company that recently bought out Summit Entertainment…and all the rights to Twilight.  But before you groan at the similarities (if you aren’t  a Twilight fan of course), love triangle etc etc, remember that in these novels Katniss is the one kicking bum…not the boys.  Girl power right?

Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.  And, more importantly, are you Team Gale or Team Peeta?  (You can change your mind after you’ve seen the film)
