A few days (weeks?) ago, I wrote about The Hunger Games, the futuristic novel by Suzanne Collins that somehow made killing kids romantic.  Don’t ask how (you’ll only understand after you’ve read the book).  Well, when I learned that it was part of a trilogy, I made sure to read the other two as soon as possible.

And so, now I’ve finished.  And can tell you all about Catching Fire, and Mockingjay.

In Catching Fire, we learn that Katniss’ and Peeta’s actions at the end of the Hunger Games have started to cause problems for The Capitol and it’s leader, President Snow, who believe a rebellion may begin.  As punishment, Katniss and Peeta have to return back to the Arena for their second consecutive Hunger Games.  Only this year, instead of playing other children and teenager’s like themselves, they’re playing victors from other districts who’ve won in the past.

What I liked about this book is that while there wasn’t the same romance that occurred in The Hunger Games, there was still the same excitement and action that comes from the Arena.  On top of that, it was interesting to see how the other victors, many who are much older, reacted to being thrust back into the spotlight; when they were promised they would be treated like kings for the rest of their lives.  Special mention of course goes to the deliciously attractive Finnick from District Four (he is described in pretty much the same way Edward Cullen was…hello fun mental images).

In Mockingjay (without giving too much away), a rebellion has started and Katniss is the fact of the rebels and their opposing forces against the Capitol.  I don’t want to give too much away for readers, but overall this was my least favourite of the three, perhaps because its the most accurate of war, and therefore, the most heart-rending.

And as for which boy eventually won Katniss’ heart, out of Gale and Peeta?  Well,  you’ll just have to read to find out!

Have you finished the trilogy?  Were you happy with what happened, displeased, or thought there was something lacking?  Let me know!
